Dine and Wine, Milan

For me one of the unforgettable moments of Milan will be the Charcuterie (Delicatessen or a Gastronomia or a Salumeria) Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone on Via Monte Napoleone, 12 in Milan, Italy (+39 02 784 429).

Docked and hidden within a courtyard along the famous shopping road Monte Napoleone, Il Salumaio is usually perceived as a place to have a quick bite of something during shopping. As much as I would agree on the “respite from shopping with a fine selection of wine” part, I could not agree less with the

ilsalumaio“quick bite” part. To me Il Salumaio is always a mesmerizing, cozy place offering overwhelming Italian taste with a good selection of Italian wine, cheese, salamis and home cooked dishes including Risotto alla Milanese (yellow rice or rice with saffron), a variety of raw fish, arancini di riso (a special Sicilian rice ball) etc.

Il Salumaio is both a gastronomia and a restaurant. Therefore it is possible to order off a formal menu and be seated and treated as if you were at an elegant restaurant. For reservations, you may visit their Web site or simply call them at +39 02 784 650. The restaurant is open between 12.00 and 18.30.

In my opinion, the better and the nicest part, is to be able to order directly from the charcuterie section to your table. This is exactly how I have celebrated my graduation as well. A selection of raw fish, a charcuterie platter of prosciutto, salami and braseola together with Parmigiano Reggiano, ricotta and mozzarella di bufala. All of this accompanied by a bottle of prosecco, selection of Il Salumaio.

Cheers, congratulations and buon appetito!
